Why camp in Stoumont?

Stoumont is a small rural municipality in the Belgian Ardennes, crossed by the Lienne and bordered by the Amblève. The landscape is one of wooded valleys, sloping pastures and quiet hamlets. The campsite is set along the river, well away from major roads, in a very quiet area. Evenings here are silent except for the water. The long-distance footpaths GR 571 and GR 576 pass nearby, and the region suits families, hikers and anglers alike.

What to see in Stoumont and around

The village of Stoumont itself is worth a short detour for its view over the Amblève valley. In neighbouring La Gleize, the December 44 Museum tells the story of the Battle of the Bulge around a King Tiger tank still parked on the square. The Saint-Hubert church in Rahier, the old Lienne mills and the Chambralles lookout rocks are all easy stops. Stavelot, a historic town known for its abbey and its Laetare carnival, lies about fifteen kilometres away.

Outdoor activities

The Lienne and the Amblève are both suited to kayaking: a kayak rental is available in Coo. Trout fishing is practised on the Lienne. Cyclists can find a network of slow roads and sections of the RAVeL greenway. Walkers have waymarked trails from the GR 571 down to short loops starting near the campsite. In winter, when the snow holds, the Hautes Fagnes offer cross-country ski tracks and a few downhill slopes about 30 minutes by car.

Bob's Gym

For guests who want to keep up their training during their stay, Bob's Gym is a local gym open to visitors. A good complement to hiking and the outdoor activities on offer in the area.
